The La Sportiva Karacal has been conceived as a training shoe dedicated to trail running, perfect for those medium and long distance routes where a comfortable and supportive performance shoe is required. Featuring a combination of a comfortable fit, a great level of responsive cushioning and a grippy outsole makes for a shoe that will eat up the miles effortlessly. Upper The upper is constructed of a breathable, single layer 3D sandwich mesh for supreme breathability, perfect for the longer runs where your feet will get warmer and expand. This upper is also seamless to further improve comfort, breathability and flexibility. A shaped thermo form toe cap has been added over the toe for some additional protection whilst keeping the weight low, along with a small extension to the outsole onto the toe cap of the shoe. Microfibre reinforcements have been added to the heel to provide rear stability. The tongue uses a traditional construction with padding for maximum comfort, especially useful when lacing the Karacal with the dual top eyelets to lock the heel into the heel cup and prevent forward foot drive when running. Midsole A dual density EVA midsole makes for an extremely lightweight but supportive shoe that is also flexible. The lighter foam acts as greater cushioning whilst a high density EVA acts as an Integrated rock shield for increased stability and rock guard effect, particularly useful on those rockier mountain days. Footbed An Ortholite Mountain Running MR footbed has been used. It is a 5mm comfort oriented footbed that offers excellent moisture management thanks to the open cell structure of the foam. It has also been treated with anti microbial agents and is washable for a more hygienic shoe. Outsole The Karacal uses FriXion Blue compound rubber on the outsole for durability and traction due to the Impact Brake System. FriXion Blue has been specifically designed to be hardwearing with good levels of grip, making for an excellent mountain running shoe that wont wear out as quickly as some of the softer rubber compounds used in other models. The Karacal also features a 7mm drop, with a heel stack of 26mm, a forefoot stack of 19mm and a 3.5mm tread depth better suited for all round use and use on trailsrock as opposed to the wet stuff where deeper and more aggressive lugs would be better suited. The Karacal is primarily aimed at Medium and Long Distance trail use, so it features a high volume last for improved comfort over long distances. Thanks to the twin top eyelet and the ability to lock the heel back into the heel cup, the Karacal can fit a wide variety of feet. If you have narrow or low volume feet you may potentially struggle with the fit unless a volume reducer or 3rd party insole like Superfeet is used to modify the volume.
